The European Apprenticeship Track

the concept

The concept of the European Apprenticeship Track is simple. It allows students to carry out their programme as an apprentice in a company from the beginning of the Master degree period. A contract is drawn up between the company, EDHEC Business School and the student, agreeing to the conditions which include a monthly salary for the student.

Threefold gain

The new track benefits not only the student, but also the company and EDHEC Business School.

The students obviously benefit from having their studies paid for, but above all the programme gives them a unique opportunity to combine theory with practice and to develop highly marketable skills through the Company-School formula. There is also a strong likelihood that they will be offered a job at the end of their course by the company that has invested in them for more than two years.

There is also a twofold benefit for the company: on the one hand, the firm cultivates its image as a social company, and on the other hand it is able to recruit people chosen after a long-term 'trial and training period'.

Finally, EDHEC gains through the strengthening of the already very close links with the corporate world. The relationships developed between the EDHEC professors who will be the tutors and the business executives and managers who will be the training supervisors will provide new pedagogical input for the professors' courses, perhaps resulting in material for new research projects

batiment la defenseIn 2005, EDHEC reaffirmed its commitment to drawing its students closer to the corporate world by designing a totally innovative programme: The European Apprenticeship Track, a  rotating blend of theoretical course work and in-company placements. Through learning about how business works in the heart of the company, this programme aims to facilitate student integration into the world of business.

In close collaboration with the Ile-de-France district and Formasup Paris, the european Apprenticeship Track is now in its second year.

highlights

This programme accommodates a constant rotation between the School and the company and enables the students to capitalise on the experience gained in different posts or through ongoing projects.

The EDHEC subjects taught offer cross-disciplinary content integrating highly practical skills such as knowing how to manage information flows in a variety of domains: accounting, finance, tax, law, etc. The general teaching structure is articulated around four or five broad areas of competence, requiring input from a range of disciplines.

The case studies the apprentices work on is based on material coming from the practical experience of the students encountered in the company, as in continuous education programmes.

International

The new format also has a strong international slant since :

  • One academic term must be spent in one of EDHEC's partner universities in another European country.
  •  A second term must also be spent in a European branch or subsidiary of the company employing the apprentice.

In addition, the multicultural aspect of the course will be reinforced in the longer term by the participation of students from all over Europe since the Apprenticeship Track is geared towards European nationals who would like to obtain the EDHEC diploma.

Alternating Theory and Practice

Students follow their EDHEC tuition and are at the same time taken on as an apprentice in a company. A contract is drawn up between the company, EDHEC  and the student, agreeing to the conditions which include a monthly salary for the student.

During the 27 months of their Master programme, the students spend successive
periods in a company where they come to grips with the realities of the business world, interspersed with academic periods in EDHEC's new Parisian campus where they acquire theoretical management expertise. From the considerable hands-on experience gained, the students are able to put their academic learning into perspective and also to put the wealth of theoretical knowledge delivered by
their professors to the test.

In addition to the tremendous skill training gained, the students also receive
a monthly salary of more than 60% of the SMIC (minimum wage in France) and their EDHEC tuition course fees are paid by the company.

Coaching

The apprentice can count on the effective assistance of two 'mentors': their training supervisor who is responsible for their complete integration in the company and their personal tutor at EDHEC who guides them through their coursework.

Thanks to this intensive coaching, the European Apprenticeship Track will provide a real hothouse for cultivating managerial competences in students.

The European Apprenticeship Track fits in perfectly with learning teams and E-learning, enabling the students to take a highly global perspective and to apply their ideas in hands-on situations.

Why Paris?

  •  75% of all our annual internship offers come from the region of Paris, concerning 65% of our students.

  • More than two-thirds of our business partners are based in and around Paris.

  • Nearly 50% of the students in the Grande Ecole programme come from the region of Paris.

  • Paris is highly attractive to other Europeans who we hope will
make up a large percentage of this new track.
