Alumni Spotlight: Julio Cardozo's Article Published in Research in International Business and Finance
EDHEC PhD in Finance is proud to celebrate a new milestone in the journey of Julio Cardozo, whose work has recently been published in the internationally recognised journal Research in International Business and Finance.
Currently a Credit Risk Officer at the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York (FHLBNY), Julio completed the EDHEC PhD in Finance in December 2024 while continuing his professional career. Before joining FHLBNY, he spent more than fourteen years at Sicredi, where he held several executive leadership positions, including Chief Risk Officer & Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer.
His published article, "Creditor influence through private debt covenants: Evidence from uni and multivariate covenant slack measures estimated via Regression Discontinuity Design", explores how debt covenants influence corporate decision-making and provides new insights into the relationship between lenders and borrowers.
The publication reflects years of dedication, critical thinking and analytical work. It also illustrates how experienced finance professionals can continue advancing their careers while contributing meaningful knowledge to the finance community.
Publication is a key milestone in scientific reserach. It provides a formal way to share the results of years of work through a rigorous peer-reviewed process. Without the EDHEC PhD in Finance program, this research project would never have reached its final level of quality and structure. The guidance and feedback provided by faculty members during presentations, as well as colleague contributions, were essential in shaping the work. A strong academic community is the support that allows you to overcome the challenges that arise during the whole journey.

We warmly congratulate Julio on this outstanding achievement and wish him continued success in the next chapter of his professional journey.
