Camilla Georgeon, from France and Italy, graduated from EDHEC’s MSc in Corporate Finance & Banking in 2017. She is now a Consultant in Strategy Regulatory and Corporate Finance at Deloitte Luxembourg.

WHAT WAS YOUR EDUCATION BEFORE COMING TO EDHEC?

I hold a Bachelor of Finance degree from Bocconi University in Milan, Italy.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE EDHEC?

I first chose the field I wanted to specialise in, then I chose the institution. I chose EDHEC mainly because of its rankings and because of feedback I had received from friends. The general consensus was that there was a good atmosphere among students at the business school and that the teachers had strong professional backgrounds, bringing a high level of expertise to the classroom. EDHEC’s finance campus (in Nice) has a solid reputation and, for this reason, I felt it was the kind of university I wanted to attend.
I also wanted to go back to France to finish my education, as I knew that if I ever considered applying for jobs there in future, it would be a great advantage to have a Grande École on my CV.

HOW HAS YOUR EDHEC EDUCATION HELPED YOU IN YOUR CAREER? WHAT WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT TAKEAWAY FROM THE PROGRAMME?

EDHEC’s reputation was definitely a plus starting out in my career when most of your CV is about your education. EDHEC’s course structure was also a big advantage when I started working. The MSc in Corporate Finance & Banking is primarily based on group projects and the skills you acquire in these groups (teamwork and presentation skills, for example) are fundamental to working in a consulting firm.

WHAT IS YOUR JOB POSITION?

I am currently an Analyst in Strategy Consulting at Deloitte Luxembourg. I mostly work on regulatory strategy projects – initial assessments and implementation.

ARE THERE SKILLS YOU HAVE ACQUIRED AT EDHEC THAT ARE USEFUL IN YOUR JOB?

In addition to working as part of a team, as I mentioned earlier, I learned how to handle multiple projects at the same time, how to speak in public, and to create and hold an engaging presentation.

DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR FUTURE EDHEC STUDENTS?

My advice would be not to underestimate the choice of discipline you will study, as MScs are much more specialised than Bachelor’s degrees and provide you with the fundamental hard skills you will need in your first years as a professional. Also, never underestimate the power of networking ‒ be it at job fairs, at university, at work ‒ you never know when you might meet people again and how they might be able to help you in your career.
