Juliette Comby - MiM Data Science & AI for Business

In today’s data-centric business landscape, the ability to translate complex datasets into actionable insights is a highly sought-after skill. For Juliette, a student on the MiM – Data Science & AI for Business programme, this capability has become the cornerstone of her internship experience at Danone’s Paris headquarters. Her journey illustrates not only the practical application of academic knowledge, but also the value of combining technical expertise with strategic business thinking — an approach that lies at the heart of EDHEC’s pedagogy.

Bridging Data and Strategy in a Global Organisation

Currently completing her internship within Danone’s Global Business Performance team, Juliette operates at the intersection of analytics and strategic decision-making. More specifically, she contributes to the Strategic Insights and Analytics department, where her role centres on delivering performance analyses that inform high-level business decisions.

“I’m essentially assisting the team on different performance analyses to deliver actionable insights,” she explains. “It really helps to create impact and support decision-making for Danone.”

Her work involves handling a wide range of data sources, including sell-out data, brand health tracking, and consumer panel datasets. By synthesising these inputs, Juliette helps assess both Danone’s market performance and that of its competitors. The objective is clear: to “connect all the dots” and provide a comprehensive view that guides marketing and commercial strategies.

This cross-functional exposure allows her to collaborate with multiple category teams, reinforcing the importance of adaptability and communication in data-driven roles.

A Skillset Rooted in EDHEC’s Academic Experience

Juliette credits her academic training at EDHEC Business School as a decisive factor in both securing and succeeding in her internship. Having completed the first year of the MiM – Data Science & AI for Business programme, she entered the recruitment process with a solid understanding of key concepts such as KPIs, datasets and analytical methodologies.

“During the interview, it felt more like an exchange than an interrogation,” she recalls. “I already knew the tools and concepts they were discussing, thanks to my courses.”

This preparation extended beyond theory. Juliette highlights her proficiency in tools such as Power BI as particularly valuable in her day-to-day tasks. Moreover, EDHEC’s emphasis on business cases enabled her to understand how technical knowledge translates into real-world business applications.

“I knew which types of datasets were useful for specific analyses. That’s something I learned through practical case studies at EDHEC.”

Confidence Through Competence

This strong academic foundation has also contributed significantly to Juliette’s confidence, both during the recruitment process and throughout her internship.

“I felt really confident during the interview because I understood everything we were talking about,” she notes. “And when I arrived, I already knew how to use certain tools and interpret key metrics.”

Her ability to engage in meaningful discussions with managers and colleagues reflects a broader educational objective: equipping students not just with knowledge, but with the confidence to apply it effectively in professional contexts.

The Power of Curiosity and Continuous Learning

When asked what advice she would give to current students, Juliette emphasises the importance of curiosity. In a field as dynamic as data analytics, she believes that learning should extend beyond the classroom.

“Data is about trying, learning, exploring, and developing,” she says. “It’s important to be curious about all your courses and to understand how they connect to real business challenges.”

She also underscores the value of engaging with industry professionals. Through EDHEC’s Career Centre and networking opportunities, Juliette was able to connect with recruiters and ultimately secure her first internship. For her current role at Danone, she took a proactive approach by reaching out directly to a manager on LinkedIn—an initiative that proved successful.

From Theory to Practice: Real-World Applications

One of the most striking aspects of Juliette’s experience is how directly her coursework has translated into practical applications. For instance, her training in Python has enabled her to collaborate more effectively with data scientists.

“Even if I do not code every day, it’s really useful to understand what they’re doing,” she explains. “When there are data issues, I can follow how they are resolved and contribute to discussions.”

This interdisciplinary collaboration highlights the importance of having at least a foundational understanding of technical tools, even in roles that are not purely technical.

The Value of Internships in Career Development

For Juliette, the internship has been instrumental in confirming her career aspirations. Beyond applying technical skills, she has developed a deeper understanding of the importance of communication, strategic thinking, and business impact.

“It’s much more concrete than being in the classroom,” she says. “Now I can really apply everything I have learned.”

This hands-on experience has allowed her to test her interests in a real-world setting, providing clarity on the type of role she wants pursue in the future.

Looking Ahead: Choosing a Specialisation

As she approaches her final year at EDHEC, Juliette is considering two potential MSc programmes: Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence, and Marketing Analytics. Her current role, which blends elements of both domains, has made the decision particularly challenging.

“I am hesitating between the two because I enjoy both the technical and the strategic aspects,” she explains.

To make her choice, she plans to continue engaging with professionals across different teams at Danone, gaining insights into their day-to-day responsibilities. This exploratory approach reflects her broader mindset: remaining open, curious, and adaptable in a rapidly evolving field.

A Competitive Edge in the Job Market

Juliette firmly believes that her dual skillset—combining business acumen with technical expertise—gives her a distinct advantage.

“At EDHEC, I have developed both strong business knowledge and technical skills in data science,” she says. “That combination really makes a difference.”

Her manager’s feedback during the recruitment process confirms this perspective, highlighting the growing demand for profiles that can bridge the gap between data and decision-making.
