Schola Africa
Schola Africa is an international solidarity association that has been working in Burkina Faso since 2000 and in Senegal since 2017. It aims to promote access to primary education and vocational training for young women. Its members are all part of EDHEC Business School, apart from the co-founder Karim Gomina who is a retired professor from Burkina Faso.
In each of our projects, we defend two fundamental values. Firstly, the rigorous follow-up of our actions, which is ensured by our three annual missions to Senegal and by regular contacts with our local partners with whom we work hand-in-hand all year long.
Secondly, participatory development, which aims to directly involve the local population inour projects. Whether it be by meeting and consulting the inhabitants of villages on their needs or by hiring local manufacturers for all of our projects, which allows us to engage, in a way, in creating wealth among the communities we are involved in. We are convinced that these two values are key to implementing durable and effective projects answering the needs of the local population.
Since its creation, the association has financed the construction of 25 classrooms which allow more than 1,300 pupils to attend school each year. In addition, since 2002, our association has been managing a sewing training center for young Burkinabè women. Until today, 330 women have benefited from this training.
Moreover, we have undertaken several complementary projects like the distribution of more than 1500 solar lamps since 2013 and the construction of 44 latrines, and the rehabilitation of 12, that are improving the hygiene of the pupils and their learning conditions.
