Korea’s Consul General to France presents innovative textbooks to MiM GETT students
On 8 December 2020, Professor Ludovic Cailluet, MiM GETT programme director, and Jihun Lee, EDHEC’s Korean language and culture lecturer, were invited to the Korean Embassy in Paris to receive “Learn! Korean with BTS” textbooks from His Excellency Ji-Joon Kim, Consul General of Korea to France, Educational Attaché Seigyeong Song and project manager Shinbi Lee, courtesy of the Korea Foundation. “The Education Section of the Korean Embassy in France will endeavour to support EDHEC Business School by cooperating with Korean organisations, so that EDHEC Business School students can better learn the Korean language and culture,” says Mr Song.
The Korea Foundation was established in 1991 to promote Korea to the world and to undertake and support international relations, with a view to deepening mutually beneficial international civil networks. Its initiatives include foreign-exchange programmes, the promotion of Korean studies, networking to foster international cooperation, arts, and cultural exchanges, and media projects.
Some very special textbooks
"Learn! Korean with BTS" was designed for foreign students seeking to take the ultimate leap, to study Korea’s language and culture to gain a deeper appreciation of the country. The study kit comprises four textbooks and a “speaking pen”, which plays back the correct pronunciation of words and phrases by touching symbols on pages, as well as a set of Hangeul computer keyboard stickers. Co-developed by Big Hit Edu and the Korean Language Contents Institute at the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS), the package is designed to help users study the Korean alphabet, master vowels, and consonants and learn basic phrases based on Korea's regional traits and culture. EDHEC Business School is among the first institutions worldwide to have chosen this ground-breaking method, alongside Middlebury College in Vermont, the École Normale Supérieure in Paris, Ain Shams University in Cairo, and the University of Languages & International Studies and Thang Long University in Hanoi.
“At the GETT programme, we consider learning the Korean language and culture to be central to our students’ preparations to study at SKKU GSB,” says Professor Cailluet. “The GETT programme is one of the very few double-degree masters programmes between French and Korean universities and we are working to build bridges between France and Korea through business innovation and partnerships, with companies such as Samsung, Naver, and FrenchTech Seoul.”
