In 1988, ahead of its time, EDHEC Business School decided to widen the scope in its academic programmes by launching a unique double degree programme in Business Law & Management, in partnership with the Law School of the Catholic University of Lille, giving students the opportunity to acquire an added competency and enriching the diversity of programmes offered by the school.

Now, in June 2020, the top-tier French business school is launching the EDHEC Augmented Law Institute. As the leading business school in France in the field of law, EDHEC plans to step up its activity in the sector by creating the EDHEC Augmented Law Institute. The aim is to become the world’s go-to business school for augmented law, both in terms of training offers and research programmes. The Institute will analyse the impact of new technologies (AI, machine learning, deep learning) on law and legal practices. It will also be tasked with training augmented lawyers and building models from a hybridisation standpoint, so as give all future managers, business leaders and entrepreneurs the keys to understanding regulatory and legal issues. Lastly, the Institute will offer the legal and legal professions market the first legal talent management platform.

A shining new asset for EDHEC and its students

The goal of the EDHEC Augmented Law Institute is to place “the knowledge, skills and function of the lawyer at the centre of transformations in business and society”, says Professor Christophe Roquilly, Dean of Faculty and Research and The EDHEC Augmented Law Institute. “The Institute is, therefore, perfectly aligned with EDHEC's 2025 strategic plan to ‘Impact Future Generations’.”

EDHEC Augmented Law Institute is designed around three strategic areas: its hybrid offering, its meaningful research for the legal industry and its Legal Talent Management platform.

The EDHEC Augmented Law Institute aims to underscore the logic of hybridising knowledge by constructing mixed programmes ‒ Law & Finance, Law & Artificial Intelligence ‒ and creating a continued education offering to support the development of first-class legal professionals.

The employability and professional integration of students trained by the EDHEC Augmented Law Institute are underpinned by a world-class teaching staff and the EDHEC Careers Department, both of which are in permanent contact with the largest companies and law firms in France and around the world. Since its inception, the Business Law & Management programme has produced 700 graduates, practising in the legal and tax professions in companies and law firms globally.
