MSc in Management Studies students have completed their training with a Certification in Data Analytics and Machine Learning taught by CeADAR, the Irish Centre for Applied Artificial Intelligence at University College Dublin in Ireland.

The students took master classes in AI prototypes, machine learning, predictive analytics in industry, unstructured data analytics and deep learning. This training programme was designed to cover three types of classes: a master class, technology class, and a hands-on application.  The master class given by CeADAR’s senior data scientists working in applied industry research, provided insights into the sorts of practices and problems faced when tackling data science projects.  The technology class introduced students to the main technologies used in the data science space such as machine learning mechanisms and neural networks.  The hands-on application enabled students to apply machine learning to real problems using python interactive notebooks.

To complement the theoretical and hands-on application classes, students visited three companies: SSE Airtricity, the international wind farm company; HubSpot, the marketing and sales software developer, and distributor; and Deloitte Blockchain Labs. At the companies, the students met with data science specialists in innovation, deep learning, and blockchain.

Dr Peter Daly, Professor, and Director of the MSc in Management Studies said, “This training programme enabled students to better understand the challenges of AI, machine learning and deep learning in a wide variety of industry situations; helped students to learn how to ‘speak the language of data analytics’ with data science experts, and provided them with hands-on experience of data analytics and machine learning in business”. Indeed, Ritusko Iinuma, Japanese MSc in Management Studies student said she gained insights on how data and non-data scientists can interact. “We live in a tech world, it is essential to know about data and how data is handled. We gained an understanding of what data scientists do and what as future managers, we should keep in mind when managing projects with a team including data scientists. The Data Analytics and Machine Learning Training Programme at University College Dublin definitely opened our eyes and mind to something critical in business decisions, business decisions we will have to take as managers.
