Since 2022, Le Monde has been publishing a daily podcast, "L'Heure du Monde", to decipher the major issues in the news.

Bertrand Monnet, EDHEC Senior Lecturer and Director of the Criminal Risks Management Chair has been invited to talk about (in French):

Fentanyl: the lucrative business of a deadly drug

Fentanyl : le business lucratif d’une drogue mortelle

Episode preview: "In the United States, during the opioid crisis, a particularly dangerous drug is flooding the streets and claiming thousands of victims: fentanyl. This synthetic product, originally created to relieve the pain of cancer patients, has effects thirty to fifty times stronger than heroin. Across the Atlantic, it is responsible for one death by overdose every seven minutes.

A well-oiled business has been set up around this drug: from China, where Mexican traffickers bring in the drugs that they transform into little blue pills, to Dubai, where the money from this trade is laundered.

Bertrand Monnet [...] has been investigating the Sinaloa cartel, Mexico's largest criminal organisation, since 2014. In this episode of "L'Heure du Monde", he tells us about his investigation to reconstruct the circuit of this deadly drug."
