Before awarding them their degrees, Mario Guevara spoke to the 108 future MBA graduates about a number of his managerial convictions acquired during a career that has involved expatriate postings throughout the world and made him the CEO of a global corporation.
Using a list of 10 key tips, he talked of concepts like curiosity, flexibility, but also the ability to recognise one's mistakes and the need for unimpeachable behaviour vis-à-vis one's staff... simple tips, but effective ones that the future graduates rightly appreciated for their value.
Managerial integrity and responsibility are key components of success for the company. In a complex, fast-changing world, managers need to make decisions that are correct and appropriate to cultures whose codes they do not fully understand. They have to be ready to listen and to learn all over again in each new country, underlined Mario Guevara.
EDHEC's MBA and Executive MBA programmes help future executives to understand and master the issues and challenges of globalisation. But we also help them even more to acquire strong managerial convictions that they can successfully apply in their organisations throughout the world, added Benoit Arnaud.
The freshly-crowned graduates then got together for the traditional mortar-board tossing.
